The Minoan palace of Phaestos can be visited a few miles inland from the town of Matala on the south coast. The rocky Samaria Gorge, located on the western side of Crete, is world renowned for walking, however be warned that the Samaria Gorge offers a serious hike from the hills to the sea. The extended summers in Rethymnon also is likely to offer plenty of sunshine whenever you can get away for a week for a holiday at Pepi Studios.
