The Eveline Apartments are set off the main road with great views over the mountains and surrounding fields. The aegean island of Crete was the centre of the Minoan civilisation which dates back over 4600 years. On the edge of Iraklion lie the remains of the historic Minoan palace of Knossos. The Minoan palace of Phaestos can be visited a few miles inland from the resort of Matala on the south coast. The wild and rugged Samaria Gorge, situated at the western end of Crete, is very famous for walking, however be warned that the Samaria Gorge offers a serious hike from the hills to the sea.
